Getting Started

New to college recruiting? Start here with the basics.

College football recruiting is the process where college coaches identify, evaluate, and offer scholarships to high school and transfer players. The ideal time to start depends on your class year: freshmen and sophomores should focus on academics and skill development, juniors should actively begin the recruiting process, and seniors should finalize their commitments. Starting early gives you more opportunities to connect with coaches and showcase your abilities.
Your target division level should match both your athletic ability and academic goals. D1 programs offer the highest level of competition and most scholarships but are extremely competitive. D2 programs provide a balance of athletics and academics with some scholarships available. D3 schools focus on academics with no athletic scholarships but may offer academic aid. NAIA and JUCO are also excellent options. Our Best Fit Tool helps match your profile with appropriate division levels based on your stats, grades, and preferences.
A complete recruiting profile should include: basic information (height, weight, position, graduation year), academic stats (GPA, test scores, class rank), athletic achievements (stats, awards, honors), highlight video, contact information for coaches, and a professional photo. Also include any leadership roles, community service, and extracurricular activities. Keep it updated regularly and ensure all information is accurate and current.

Using Our Platform

Learn how to make the most of Elevate Sports Recruiting tools.

Our Best Fit Tool uses advanced algorithms to match your academic and athletic profile with colleges that fit your criteria. Input your GPA, test scores, athletic stats, preferred location, school size, and other preferences. The tool then analyzes our database of over 1,000 college programs to provide personalized recommendations with match percentages. It considers factors like academic requirements, athletic standards, coaching philosophy, and program culture to find your best fits.
Yes! Premium subscribers can export their favorite colleges list, including coach contact information, in multiple formats (Excel, CSV, PDF). This makes it easy to track your outreach, share with family members or advisors, and organize your recruiting process. The export includes school details, coach names and emails, program information, and your personal notes about each program.
Our college database is updated continuously throughout the year. Coach contact information is verified and updated monthly, academic and athletic requirements are updated each semester, and program details are refreshed annually. During coaching change seasons (typically December-February), we update coach information within 48 hours of official announcements. We also monitor NCAA rule changes and update requirements immediately when they take effect.

Recruiting Process

Understanding the ins and outs of college football recruiting.

NCAA contact rules vary by division and your class year. For D1 football, coaches can begin calling you on June 15th after your sophomore year. However, you can contact coaches at any time via email or phone calls. D2 and NAIA have different rules with more flexibility. Before the official contact period, coaches may send you recruiting materials and respond to your communications. It's important to initiate contact early, even if coaches can't call you yet.
A great highlight video should be 3-5 minutes long, start with your best plays, include your contact information and stats in the opening, show plays from different angles, and demonstrate your position-specific skills. Use quality footage with clear visibility of jersey numbers. Include both successful plays and competitive situations. Add brief text overlays with context (opponent, game situation, your stats). Keep music appropriate and not overpowering. End with academic achievements and contact information.
Ask about their recruiting timeline, what they look for in your position, academic support programs, strength and conditioning programs, playing time opportunities, team culture, graduation rates, and career placement assistance. Also inquire about scholarship availability, campus visit opportunities, summer camps, and what sets their program apart. Avoid asking questions easily answered on their website. Show genuine interest in both athletics and academics.
